The BEST tech for new mums

MumAfter nine months of pregnancy and a baby shower, you’ve probably acquired a lot of stuff. Now that the baby’s almost here, what do you really need and what can you stuff back in the closet or sell on eBay? Here are are a list of a few indispensable tech gadgets that will help make a new mum’s life a little easier.

Sleep

Talk to any new mother and the subject is bound to come up. How is the baby sleeping? How are you sleeping? And most importantly, how do you get the baby to actually go to sleep?! With this age-old question comes a reliable answer in the form of D-Link’s new baby monitor, called EyeOn. This isn’t just any old monitor, this is an all singing (literally) and all dancing monitor. EyeOn doesn’t just listen out for your baby’s noises, it will also sing your baby to sleep from a selection of lullabies and it has a room thermometer so you can make sure your baby’s room is the optimum sleeping temperature. Genius! And, new camera will be available just in time for Christmas.

Nappy changing

It’s constant, it’s relentless and the first few times you leave the house and it happens, it can be very daunting. To make this whole process easier, NCT, the UK’s largest parenting charity, has harnessed the power of mobile technology by launching the first interactive charity iPhone application for parents. ‘NCT Babychange’ is free to download and will make it easier for parents and families who are on the move, or away from home, to find the nearest baby changing facility in their locality and view its star ratings. The app also allows parents to rate the changing station so others know if it’s a good, clean changing facility to use. The app already has over 5000 baby changing sites listed including supermarkets, train stations, shops, restaurants, libraries and local authorities with the capacity to add more.

Baby got colic

It’s tough when your baby won’t stop crying. You may be worried that something is wrong with your child, that you’ll lose your cool or that your parenting skills aren’t up to the job. The subject of colic has mixed responses but one tried and tested soothing technique is white noise. iTunes have launched ‘Baby Got Colic’ which is a selection of white noise – considered one of the most effective ways to soothe and prolong your baby’s sleep. There is a free 10 minute tester on YouTube or you can buy an hour from iTunes.

iPad mini, child proof, smash proof, splash proof protective case

An iPad is without a doubt, after your phone, one of the most important gadgets when you’re a new Mum, you’re on it all the time googling for answers to baby questions, taking photos and instantly emailing to your family and catching up on TV. The problem is, now you’re doing everything with one hand, probably with your baby in the other and feeding them at the same time, you need to protect it from the elements. This child proof iPad case is just the ticket. Plus it will last until your baby grows into a tinkering little toddler and demands to watch Peppa Pig on it, swiping with sticky fingers and dropping on the floor when their finished.
